Music Selections for the Modern Couple

Congratulations on your engagement!

You know you want a Modern Wedding… but where do you start with planning music? We’re here to help!

These are some pro-tips straight from Southern Strings musicians - we’ve played HUNDREDS of weddings and are sharing our favorite Modern Wedding Music so you don’t have to spend hours researching. ;)

A Wedding Ceremony often requires music for Seating of Mothers, Bridal Party, Bridal Entrance, and the Recessional, so let’s start at the top!

Seating of Mothers

The Seating of Mothers is a special moment to recognize the Mother Figures in a couple’s lives. One of our favorite suggestions is the sweet and nostalgic modern tune, Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Whether you know the classic sung by Judy Garland from the Wizard of Oz or from the beautiful, relaxing ukulele of Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole, we all know and love this song! It’s recognizable, memorable, and conveys a Mother’s hopes and dreams for the future of the Happy Couple.

Bridal Party

Here comes the party! We’ve got two song suggestions that are PERFECT for the Bridal Party’s time to shine: Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran and Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. Both songs set a sweet, romantic, and modern tone before the Bridal Entrance. The *Bonus* is that that both songs are long enough to suit a Bridal Party of any size, keeping the momentum of the occasion moving forward! These timeless tunes will create a beautiful atmosphere that your guests will never forget.

Bridal Entrance

It’s show time! Here Comes the Bride might be too traditional for your Modern Wedding, so here are our current favorite Bridal Entrance suggestions: A Thousand Years by Christina Perri, All of Me by John Legend, and Perfect by Ed Sheeran. All three songs exude a modern romance and timelessness to make your walk down the aisle unforgettable. These sweet, sentimental songs might make you and your guests cry happy tears, so be prepared! We love providing the music to create the right ambiance - it makes this magical moment a moving and memorable one for you and your loved ones.

Did you know that all of our suggestions are great for String Duos, Trios, and Quartets? Here’s an example of a Southern Strings Duet performing A Thousand Years!

Recessional

The Recessional leaves a lasting impression as it concludes your ceremony after being pronounced Husband and Wife and it’s the start of a future of marital bliss! We suggest Marry You by Bruno Mars, Shut Up And Dance by Walk the Moon, or Signed Sealed Delivered by Stevie Wonder. The Recessional is the first piece you and your new Hubs will hear as a married couple and it will set the festive tone for the remainder of the evening. Our suggestions are the perfect joyous sendoff to celebrate your union!

Here’s an example of a Southern Strings Trio performing Marry You to wrap up your ceremony and get the party started!

We hope these suggestions save you time and energy searching for the perfect Modern Wedding Music for your Ceremony. Our goal is to help provide the music so you don’t have to lift a finger!
